When it comes to Thai food, you would think that being coeliac would be pretty straight forward. I have learnt otherwise over the years, getting it wrong over and over. There is still a tendency to use soy sauce; which many people don't realise is riddled with gluten. The seemingly ricey rice crackers actually contain wheat flour, and the starters tend to be deep fried in some sort of floury wonderfulness.
Therefore, I am so pleased to have found a local eatery that not only tastes great, but guarantees each time I order, that there will be no nasty stuff contaminating my dinner plate.
Thai on Aire in Keighley has been established for some time, and during lockdown, has adapted to take out and delivery options very well. As everything is cooked fresh, the food can take some time to be ready, but this is always reassuring when you have a food allergy. At least you know where the dish is coming from and the stages it is going through to be coeliac-safe. The packaging is always clearly labelled too, and they have even created a fish cake starter with rice flour as a lovely starter option for anyone going GF.
You can discuss most mains on the menu as a potential GF option, and the restaurant has some GF soy sauce in as standard. I always opt for the curry menu as I am a creature of habit, but the grilled fish mains are also incredible. The portions are huge, and the food remains piping hot on delivery. I can't fault it. As long as you don't want your food pronto, this is the perfect place to enjoy traditional thai cuisine, with zero concerns about cross contamination.
I will never forget suddenly being unwelcome in any MyThai in the local area when they decided they would not put measures in place to ensure they can create an allergy safe kitchen. This was once one of our go-to places for delicious and speedy Thai street food, and the stark notices that appeared on the door of the Leeds and Bradford establishments stating "do not enter" if you have an allergy were very disappointing to see in this day and age. At least we have a wonderful and very local eatery that is doing the right thing for every customer, and long may it continue.
